THYME OIL USED IN AROMATHERAPY

THYME OIL( THYMUS VULGARIS) USED IN AROMATHERAPY :

Thyme oil is volatile oil obtained from dried or partially dried leaves and flowering tops of thymus vulgaris ( lamiaceae) by water and steam distillation. Thyme is a much branched sub shrub, evergreen plant.  It grows in Egypt, Algeria, and former Yugoslavia.

Its oil pungent, sweet harbacous smell and oil is extracted out of whole flowering herb by steam distillation.

There are two types of thyme red and  thyme white:-

Red Thyme:- Red thyme oil is the natural essential oil produced from wild-growing thyme plants. It has an intense, sweet, herbal, medicinal aroma. Caution: Thyme oil can be irritating to the skin, so before using it mix it with carrier oil. 

White Thyme- White thyme  is obtained from red thyme oil that has been further refined and redistilled to remove the constituents that produce the red color. The aroma and action of white thyme oil are a bit milder than that of red thyme. Both are used to scent soaps, detergent, lotions, perfumes, colognes,  aftershaves and has antibacterial and antifungal properties. Thyme oil can be irritating to the skin, so before using it mix it with carrier oil. Caution:  and should be used cautiously. 

Aromatherapy: its therapepeutic efficacy lays in its antiseptic qualities, in dispelling fatigue and anxiety, infections of respiratory passage. It also helps in aches and skin infection as sores and swellings. it also treat cough and cold. Its invigorating effect will revive tired muscles if oil is added to bath.
