SANDALWOOD OIL USED IN AROMATHERAPY:
- Sandal wood is pale yellow viscous liquid obtained by steam distillation from the heartwood of Satalum album ( Santalaceae) an evergreen 8-12 meter in height, which is widely distributed in India and Malaya’s archipelagoes
- More than 90% of the sandalwood oil of commerce is produced by steam distillation of the pulverized heartwood and roots. The volatile oil is contained in all the elements of wood: medullar ray cells, vessels, wood fibers and wood parenchyma.
- It is native to India, China and Egypt. Its odor is warm, rich and woody. The oil is used as a fixative in perfumes and is also used in expensive fragrance like creams, soaps, massage oil, bath oils, aftershaves, lotions etc.
Aromatherapy:
Due to its sedative and cooling qualities, it is used in tension and depression. It is also a useful aphrodisiac. Due to its anti spasmodic and expectorant properties, it is used for treating various skin disorder, cystitis’s, nausea; cough and bronchitis use and apply it in a warm compress in the case of dehydrated skin.

Note: its soothing effects are accentuated by massage. Sandalwood oil blends well with rose and neroli oils.
